That is super interesting because I find that performative enthusiasm to be one of the most exhausting things about social interaction, and I feel most comfortable about friends where performative enthusiasm is not required. (I think this is actually a reason that I mostly have guy friends, despite being a girl.) Anyway it's really fascinating to hear what it's like for people with the opposite preference! Your explanation makes sense and helps me understand the phenomenon.
